1st things 1st: this is a small family only restaurant. There is like 4 people working here max. And they are all AMAZING!! The food is great, hot and fresh. Very authentic Mexican. But please understand to be patient. It's a small location that does their own thing. Most customers are regulars and know how things go. Be nice and enjoy the vibes. The food is so worth it. Once it's sold out it's out but I enjoy myself every time I'm there. There is always something else on the menu that I'm able to order instead. As basic as it is, their chips and salsa are great. Always warm and their salsas are amazing with great variety and flavor. I would give 5 stars if the parking was more manageable and maybe a tiny bit more in the menu. The menu has the names of things but I don't always like having to go to google to find out what it is; and even then what Google may give isn't what it is. Parking is not something in their control but something others should be aware of. Park down the street and walk over. The margaritas are THE BEST!

My first time here and Lisa was amazing. I've been looking for some authentic Mexican food and they delivered. The street taco was delicious and the street vibe even better.

Lisa and the food was AMAZING!! From her great customer service and friendly attitude ON THE PHONE before I got there; to her attentiveness during my visit. As an expecting mother, I woke up early this morning CRAVING a stuffed poblano pepper. (There's a place that used to serve them here in Atlanta I would frequent; but they took it off their menu.) So I was on a frantic search to find a replacement. After spending a few hours early in the am searching online for these stuffed peppers, I came across Mi Barrio. I wasn't sure if they actually had it. So I waited a few hours until they opened to call. (I've passed by Mi Barrio several times in the past and had no idea of what a GEM it was!) Lisa answered the phone and quickly let me know that they had JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! She also mentioned that they sell out quickly. So I let her know that I was ON MY WAY asap! Once I arrived, my partner and I enter their quaint, family-style restaurant. I was so comfortable with how at home it made us feel. The size of the dining area made the interaction so much more intimate and meaningful. Once I let Lisa know that I was the one who called, she already knew exactly what I wanted. I got the stuffed poblano pepper with beef. It came with a side of rice, refried beans, lettuce, tomato, onions, avocado on a small bed of spinach. They also gave us complimentary homemade chips and salsa! OH, and I can't forget the hot, fresh homemade corn tortillas on the side as well. My guy, he got their shrimp tacos, street style. The shrimp were seasoned well, a NICE size and great portions! Lisa was very attentive, giving us their fresh sauces to accompany our dishes along with anything else we needed. The family operation that was exhibited made me want to cry happy tears. From the communication from the front of house to back of house... to the baby granddaughter making an appearance saying hello to all the customers!! I cannot WAIT to return!!! This has made my entire day!! Gracias MI BARRIO y MUCHAS GRACIAS LISA!!

Mom & Pop shops seem to be the BEST!!! I love authentic eatery. I love it more when it's the parents shop & they're still the cook, i know that they cook with so much love! Tacos were so great!!! A taco with a fresh sliced avocado! I mean how much better can you get?? They have their daughter waitressing which was dope & she was great & friendly. Ambiance was super calm & family orientated, they also had a mixed crowd which allowed me to know that everyone loves their tacos! Will definitely be back!

Love love love! Great chips and salsa! Enjoyed carne asada torta and enchiladas. Absolutely recommend this amazing restaurant. Amazing service amazing food

What an awesome hidden gem. After a busy day of working and a workout break, I was starving and had no clue what I was craving. On my way home I pulled over for a second to figure out what the heck I was doing next, and ended up in the parking lot of Mi Barrio. Located in the midst of a busy part of East Atlanta, if you blink, you could really miss this gem. I wasn't really looking for it but just stumbled upon their front door! I quickly took a peek at their Yelp page and looking at the reviews of my fellow Yelpers, I knew I was in the right spot. So I headed on in. Dim but gently brightened up with natural light from outdoors, I loved how authentic the vibe was when I entered. I didn't feel like I was in some gentrified, modern Mexican eatery, but instead, in an authentic Taqueria. It's not a huge place but there's enough room to bring your family out! I was warmly greeted by the sweetheart behind the counter and escorted to a table by another. When I arrived, there was only one gentleman sitting inside, but by the time I left, there were 4 or 5 tables full of customers. As soon as I sat down there were fresh chips and salsa waiting for me. Y'all. That salsa was DELICIOUS. Wow. So spicy, so fresh. I could eat it everyday. I sat for a while waiting to order, but I think it was only because I tend to look preoccupied when solo dining because I'm usually nose-first into my book or iPad lol. As soon as I locked eyes with the young lady taking orders, she headed straight to me and was an angel. I ended up ordering her recommendation: Carne asada tacos with corn tortillas and I grabbed a beer from the fridge before my food came. (Yes, I went to the gym and then had a beer, pls mind your biz ) I swear I looked away for one second and my plate came out sizzling a minute later, lol. Not in a sense that it wasn't fresh, because it absolutely was! The portion was amazing, there wasn't a clear spot on that plate. It came with beans, rice, a little lettuce + tomato and avocado on the side. Paired with their verde sauce and the hot sauce on the table, I was stuffed leaving. It was all so delicious and the steak was well-seasoned without going overboard. Family-owned and operated, I'm a new believer and fan. With these amazing dishes, prices and team members assisting, how could I not be?

Mi Barrio is that lowkey neighborhood restaurant that isn't all that "fancy" but has great food every time. Always call ahead, because sometimes it is closed during their "regular business hours" for random reasons. That's kind of the only frustrating thing. Oh and always bring your own water because sometimes for random reasons they only have bottled and I hate the plastic waste. Their chips and salsa are great and they always refill your chips or salsa if you run out of one before the other. We always get the veggie tostone which is loaded high, and I always get the taco plate with pinto beans, lengua and al pastor. Their al pastor is the shining star, and sometimes I just get two al pastor tacos. The tacos are really hearty and the al pastor in particular is so, so good. Savory and saucy and satisfying. Their refried beans are also bomb, and their tabletop salsa is great for drizzling, too.
